Skyline Trail Rides
Skyline Trail Rides is a small family oriented outfitting business located at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper National Park and owned by the Flato’s for the last 22 years.
The services offered to guests includes daily guided trail rides, ranging from an hour to half day, 3-day pack trips to our Backcountry lodge, Shovel Pass Lodge, horseback riding lessons and private rides.
Our company hires around 10 to12 employees either for the front or backcountry positions. Below is a list of the positions available for 2013:
Stables Manager (May-Oct 15)
Supervise staff at barns and on the trail and responsible for program delivery in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner. Should have horse health care and previous employee management experience.
Horseback Riding Guides (May 15-Oct 15 or shorter)
Will guide groups on hourly trail rides daily. Duties include tacking horses, cleaning barn and training colts if you have required colt expertise.
Wrangler/Backcountry Packer (July & August)
Responsible for packing and leading a pack string of horses in very steep mountain terrain. Must have knowledge in horse health care, good horsemanship and previous experience as packer.
On top of your daily tasks as a trail guide or wrangler/packer and if you have the required qualifications, you could end up training young Canadian Horses throughout the summer. As well, all staff will be offered a free trip to Shovel Pass Lodge during their days off.
Backcountry Cook Manager (July & August)
Backcountry Cook Assistant (July & August)
Responsible for the cooking, housekeeping and menu planning for Shovel Pass Lodge, located on Skyline Trail. Lodge capacity is 7 cabins and 18 guests. Must be able to ride horses to go in and out of camp, stay at the lodge for most of the summer with a few days off every 2-3 weeks.
Requirements
• All employees must have a valid First Aid Certificate.
• Western riding and horsemanship experience is necessary.
• Packer will have priority if they have shoeing experience.
• Experience in a tourist environment or previous work with public.
• Physically fit and being able to work outside in all kind of weather.
• Minimum age is 18 years old.
Other information
Accommodation available on site at the Jasper Park Lodge staff accommodation.
A western dress code (cowboy hats, blue jeans, western shirts and cowboy boots) is required.
